Renato G. Tanchoco Sr.

Renato G. Tanchoco Sr. Born twenty-five years after MCU was founded, Renato G. Tanchoco, Sr. was exposed to the value of education early in life. He saw how parents sacrificed to give what they thought was the best legacy they could leave to their children - a good education. Atong literally grew up amidst a school environment and had witnessed the struggles of students who were forced to drop out of school because they are financially handicapped. When he became Vice-President and Treasurer of MCU (1977-1992), he actively encouraged student involvement in so many facets of university life. His concern for the poor was not limited to giving scholarships. He also gave a helping hand to some patients in the MCU Hospital whom where in dire need of medical treatment. Atong had a Business Administration degree, which enabled him to put up the RG Tanchoco Enterprises. He engaged in other endeavors like indenting, importing textile, operating movie houses, and running an ice plant. He also saw opportunities in real estate. However, his heart was always with MCU. The remaining years of his life were spent making every effort to see to it that MCU's vision and commitment goes beyond the present generation. Upon Atong 's death on November 24, 1992, his family, his wife Estela, and his four children, Myriam, Renato, Jr., Randy IV and Estela Marie involved themselves in the Renato G. Tanchoco, Sr. Memorial Foundation demonstrating the family's commitment to continue the acts of service which Atong had begun.
