The deanship of MCU-FDTMF is a position of honor that carries great responsibility. This top position requires several qualifications: a good academic background, managerial expertise and unquestionable integrity.
Eleven dean have been appointed from the time of the establishment of the College in 1947 until the present. Each dean faced the challenges and demands of the times. All performed to be the best of their ability, worthy of prestige and honor which the position carried with it. Each one left an indelible mark in the history of MCU-FDTMF.
Present Dean
Dr. Esperanza Figueroa-Rivera a professor and former Chair of MCU-FDTMF Department of Pediatrics from 1978 to 1987. She was later appointed Medical Director of MCU-FDTMF Hospital until 1997 when she resigned to take a post as Medical Board Examiner of the Professional Regulations Commission.
These plus her previous positions in professional organizations as former president of the Philippine Pediatrics Society, Caloocan Medical Society & Catholic Physicians Guild of the Philippines has given Dra. Rivera experience & expertise in Administrative & managerial capabilities.
Having been a faculty member of the MCU-FDTMF College of Medicine for the past three decades has given Dra. Rivera an objective view of the important aspects of educational strategies and its impact on student learning and outcome. She believes that the problem based learning strategy is a move towards the right direction. However, it will need a lot of effort, time, confidence and persistence of faculty, administration & students to achieve its goal.
We all need to work together to institute changes that needs to be changed, to keep an open mind, and to have faith that the reforms we are instituting will lead towards achieving the mission-vision of MCU-FDTMF.
