-This year marks the 40 th anniversary of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology of the MCU-FDT Medical Foundation.
In the beginning the department started as E.E.N.T, combining the present Ophthalmology and Otorlaryngology departments together. In 1957 it became the first independent Department of Otorhinolaryngology in the country, preceding by a good four years the establishment of the same by the UP-PGH.
With its pioneering status, it has been under the stewardship of some of the most prominent otolaryngologists in the country namely: dr. cesar Villafuerte, Sr., Dr. Angel Enriquez and Dr. Protenciana Dilag- Principe.
Under its present leadership and consultant staff, the department continues in its effort to provide the best possible medical services to its patients. Through the untiring and enthusiastic support of the administration, the department has assigned its consultant staff to the areas of Rhinopharyngology, Otology- Audiology and Maxillo Faxial/ Plastic Surgery.
This improved capacity has gone a long way in the residency training programs of the department, which to this day is one of the few fully accredited training programs in otorhinolaryncology.
Through the many years, it has produced many specialists who are now busy in their respective fields. It is therefore, with great optimism that the department views the future. With dedicated efforts of the people concerned, it is track towards a fulfilling golden anniversary 10 years hence.
