VISION
The MCU-FDTMF College of Medicine Department of Pathology is recognized as an academic department providing excellence in teaching at all levels and research activities to support and enhance the Vision and Mission of the MCU-FDTMF and MCU
MISSION
To equip students with general understanding of disease, its pathogenesis. And to be able to identify morphological and functional derangement and know its clinical significance to come up with an accurate diagnosis in order to institute proper management.
To provide the facilities and atmosphere where research activities can flourish. Forming linkages with the MCU-FDTMF Hospital, Research Unit of the Manila Central University and other affiliated institutions
To promote respect among the faculty, staff and students while encouraging continued personal growth, education and development.
HISTORY
• When it was first founded : the acting head of the Department of Pathology was Dr. Melquiades Francisco.
• Early 60’s : Dr. Almario Boccal
• Late 60’s Dr. Jose Faraon
• Early 70’s :Dr. Roche Ramos
• 1975 Dr. Buenaventura Erese was designated officer in charge.
• 1975 Dr. Antonia G. Cruz-Basa, a diplomate in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, American Board of Pathology and Philippine Board of Pathology. She is concurrently the head of the Department of Laboratories, MCU-FDTMF Hospital.
• Dr. Antonia G. Cruz – Basa was instrumental in the formation and was first to head the following Hospital Committees :
Committee of Blood Transfusion
Tissue Committee
Tumor Board.• 1982 for the first time, the Department of Pathology was accredited for residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the Philippine Society of Pathologists.
• 2000 – 2001 : Dr. Monica Yu – Tolentino assumed Chairmanship of the Department of Pathology in the College of Medicine, Dra. Basa remained to be the Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Clinical Laboratories of the Hospital• 2001-2002 : Dr Nelson Geraldino a 1982 graduate of the Institution. He trained in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in UP-PGH. Dr Geraldino is on his second term as President of the Philippine Society of Pathologists.
• 2002 – current : Dr. Estela Marie Tanchoco is the head of the Department of Pathology College of Medicine
• It’s training program has now produced a number of accredited pathologists who successfully passed the requirements of the PSP.
• Its training Program has now produced a number of certified specialists in pathologyDr. Ma. Luisa C. Policarpio – Nicolas who topped the Board of Pathology both in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Also a diplomate in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, American Board of Pathology. Currently a fellow in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology. Practicing Pathology in Charlottesville Virginia, USA.

Dr. Wiston Magno who started his training in pathology in the department is now a Diplomate of the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and presently a staff pathologist of St. Joseph Hospital in Connecticut, USA.
